How Dynasty Media Is Capturing Qatar's Stories Through Film

In 1981, Qatar shocked the football world. A team from a country of fewer than 200,000 people reached the final of the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. More than four decades later, that story is reaching new audiences through one film.

Dynasty Media’s mission is to document and share stories like these with others. Founded in Qatar, the company is dedicated to bringing Arabic narratives to the screen with international production standards, beginning with “81: More Than Just a Game,” a documentary celebrating one of the country's defining sporting achievements.

Telling Stories That Last

For the company founders, filmmaking is about documenting stories that define a nation's identity and presenting them with the cinematic quality needed to reach audiences for generations to come.

Their focus is on a smaller number of carefully crafted productions with lasting cultural value. That philosophy shaped “81: More Than Just a Game,” which revisits Qatar's remarkable journey to the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship final while documenting an important chapter in the country's sporting history.

"Our vision has always been to tell Arabic stories that meet international production standards," said Awad Joumaa, Executive Producer and Co-founder of Dynasty Media. "We want the quality of our productions to speak for themselves."

As a young Qatari company, producing a documentary of this scale independently would have been a significant challenge. “81: More Than Just a Game,” with Ashraf Abu Issa as Executive Producer, would not have been possible without the funding and support provided by Media City Qatar which enabled Dynasty Media to bring the documentary to life and successfully screen it at Novo Cinemas. The project demonstrates how Media City Qatar is helping local production companies transform ambitious ideas into productions that reach audiences on the big screen.

The company is also exploring collaborations with schools, universities, football clubs, sports academies, and cultural institutions to position the documentary as an educational and cultural resource for future generations through community screenings and post-film discussions.

Why Qatar

For Joumaa, Qatar was always the natural home for the company.

"We believe Qatar occupies a unique position when it comes to content strategy and narrative. This provided the opportunity to establish Dynasty Media as a high-craft boutique Qatari studio focused on telling stories with international production standards," said Joumaa.

As it builds its company in Qatar, Dynasty Media aims to bring authentic Arabic stories to the screen while contributing to the country's growing creative economy.

Why Media City Qatar

As Dynasty Media grew its slate of original productions and pursued wider regional and international distribution, establishing a presence under Media City Qatar became a natural extension of its ambitions to scale Arab stories beyond local borders.

"We believe Media City Qatar's mandate to support homegrown productions and position local companies on the international stage closely aligns with our own vision," said Joumaa.

Beyond licensing, Media City Qatar provides greater industry visibility, valuable connections across the media sector, and an environment that enables local production companies to grow while reaching wider audiences.

"As a company built around cinematic ambitions, infrastructure is essential to our work. We believe the Media City Qatar ecosystem makes both business and editorial sense while providing the infrastructure needed to support our long-term growth," he added.

Looking Ahead

Building on the success of “81: More Than Just a Game,” Dynasty Media is expanding its development slate beyond documentaries into new forms of storytelling.

Current projects include a documentary exploring Qatar's diplomatic history and a sports-entertainment microdrama series that examines the intersection of sport and society through the experiences of young Arabs navigating contemporary social issues.

The company is also exploring the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking. One of its latest concepts, “What If”, is an AI-animated football story imagining an alternative outcome to Qatar's 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship campaign, demonstrating how emerging technologies can complement new approaches to storytelling.

Looking ahead, Dynasty Media will continue developing productions that celebrate Qatar's history, culture, and identity while reaching audiences around the world.

Through every project, the company's ambition remains the same: to tell stories from Qatar that resonate far beyond its borders.
