His Excellency Sheikh Dr Abdullah bin Ali bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of Media City Qatar, highlighted the pivotal role the nation’s media sector plays in driving the success of major economic conferences, including the upcoming Qatar Economic Forum.

In an exclusive interview ahead of the forum’s fourth edition, HE highlighted the media’s significant impact in shaping public opinion through the rapid dissemination of accurate, reliable and timely information. HE underscored its crucial contributions to policy creation, fostering dialogue and steering economic discourse on various pressing issues and developments.

 Addressing key challenges, the Chairman pointed to the excessive influx of information and the accelerated pace of news transmission. He added: “While breaking news is paramount, analysing events within their proper context poses a fundamental test. Direct engagement with leaders and decision-makers has become imperative to shape nuanced perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of critical issues.”

HE lauded the nation’s concerted efforts to build a robust media sector, made possible through investments in tech talents, an advanced ICT infrastructure, as well as initiatives propelling the knowledge economy, entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems.

“Our collaboration with Bloomberg has enabled us to harness a wealth of media expertise while expanding our global outreach,” he added. “This has solidified Qatar's standing as an influential media hub in the region and a nexus for global cooperation and knowledge exchange.”

Speaking on its strategies to support the media sector’s development amidst rapid technological progress, HE affirmed Media City Qatar’s commitment to staying ahead, stressing the media sector’s role in growing the country’s Gross Domestic Product and supporting the economic diversification goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE the Chairman revealed that Media City Qatar will initially focus on strategic media sectors, such as radio broadcasting, content production, digital publishing, electronic games and artificial intelligence. To nurture local entrepreneurship, HE revealed plans to open new avenues for their success, expressing his aspirations of Qatar's ascent as a creativity hub and a thriving epicentre for media enterprises, innovators and entrepreneurs.

The Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg and hosted in partnership with Media City Qatar, will run until May 16th. The forum convenes prominent thought leaders, industry pioneers and decision-makers from around the world to discuss pressing economic matters, forge partnerships and exchange expertise.
